Bloomsday Celebration

Friday, June 17, 7:30 pm

The Artists in Conversation series is supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

All around the Valley the rain has covered the hills and worked its way deep underground. Powerful roots coax this nourishment up to the very tops of the giant trees. Suddenly, as if on cue, tiny red buds -- Bloom!

Gallery A3 welcomes the beginning of summer with Bloom! This exhibit of vintage mosaics and vibrant oil paintings by Nancy Meagher and Tom Morton opens with a reception during Amherst Arts Night Out on Thursday, June 1, and runs through Saturday, July 1. On Friday, June 16 at 7:30 pm, the artists welcome the public to a Bloomsday celebration.

Nancy Meagher

Staring up at the rain-soaked trees on Amherst College Quad, or sitting above a misty Connecticut River, Nancy Meagher has returned to landscape painting, showing rich, painterly oils, along with mosaic-surfaced lamps and other surprises.

Tom Morton

Tom Morton is showing oil paintings and pastels from two series: landscapes, calledGhost Willow, and abstract interpretations inspired by James Joyce's Ulysses.

Art Forum / Bloomsday Celebration

Bloomsday is celebrated worldwide on June 16, the single day in which Joyce’s novelUlysses sets out the thoughts and actions of Leopold Bloom, Molly Bloom, Stephen Dedalus, and others. Last year, Evelyn Pye, Nancy and Tom hosted the party at Gallery A3. Bloomsday 2016 was a fascinating evening of readings from Ulysses by willing participants, passing the book from hand to hand. We hope that this year’s Bloomsday will be even more enjoyable.
